The Virtual Wenzhou project explores the histories of individuals, places, and organizations that have been related to or located in Wenzhou. Delving into the case of Wenzhou, a southeast Chinese city with distinctive cultures and languages as well as extensive experiences with fishery, maritime trade, and migration, this project examines the stories of those who have been involved in a wide array of aspects of Wenzhou's social, cultural, economic, and political history. As this project demonstrates, people, places, and organizations in a city does not occur as merely a "building block" of the city's life; instead, they have played critical roles in the making of Wenzhou's history and have shaped the trajectory of Wenzhounese communities and the worlds beyond in various significant ways.
